The Schwebel Baking Company is seeking an experienced assistant chief engineer for its Youngstown Manufacturing facility. Bakery experience is not required but is preferred. This position will primarily interface with maintenance department employees. They will be responsible for ensuring that the facility and grounds are maintained in compliance with all internal and external requirements to protect the safety, legality and quality of food.
Qualified individuals will:
· Guide maintenance mechanics in day-to-day operation of high speed, automatic bakery equipment.
· Have knowledge of hydraulics, refrigeration, electronic control panels, PLC and electricity is essential.
· Maintain paperwork on preventative maintenance program is required.
· Display good communication and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct/manage daily inspections of manufacturing equipment.
- Complete and maintain all paperwork and files as required.
- Complete daily inspections of the equipment.
- Ensure that parts used are maintained and/or ordered as needed.
- Ensure that good housekeeping is being maintained.
- Properly read, comprehend, complete and file required forms.
- Ensure mechanics are adhering to proper and safe practices during equipment PM’s and repairs.
- Report and take necessary action to prevent food safety, legality and quality problems from occurring.
- Follow and enforce programs and procedures outlined in the Food Safety and Quality Manual to support compliance with the FSSC 22000 for Food Safety and other third party audits.
- Weekly scheduling of Maintenance Technicians and vacation tracking.
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice maintenance vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
- Assist with (as needed) manufacturing floor equipment issues and repairs by guiding the team to efficiently address, diagnose, and resolve matters within the four walls of the bakery.
- Optimize equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality, ensuring the achievement of all.
- Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electromechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken.
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
- Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department
- Manage, coach and develop a high-performance Maintenance team that meets agreed objectives, and which delivers the best practices results, added value and continuous improvements.
- This position is an On-Call 24/7 Position working alongside the Chief Engineer to minimize downtime.
- Possesses good communication and computer skills.
- Previous managerial experience required.
- Able to follow/communicate written and verbal instructions in a timely manner.
- Able to assist and educate mechanics with equipment and safety issues.
- Able to troubleshoot, recognize and give instruction on mechanical and electrical repairs.
- Able to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Able to work effectively with all employees.
- Must be able to satisfy the work schedule necessary to complete job requirements.
- Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
- Working Knowledge of Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
- Advance electrical knowledge.
- Able to read and modify electrical prints.
- Able to stand, walk, and bend for up to 8 hours.
- PLC experience preferred (Allen Bradley software)
- Advanced Knowledge of Mechanical Operations.
- 5 years of Electrical troubleshooting Experience (Preferred)
- 5 Years of PLC experience (Preferred)
- Able to complete Minor PLC programing tasks (Preferred)
- Must be able to multitask and problem solve while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and maintaining attention to detail.
- Be able to support and direct department in absence of Chief Engineer
- Direct and mange parts and scheduling/planning activities (PM Maintenix training and use of is mandatory)
