Quality Assurance Coordinator
Are you looking for an excellent opportunity in the field of commercial baking?  We have a great position at a well-known, consumer packaged goods company for a person to coordinate and support company-wide quality and food safety regulatory efforts.  This is an exciting role to maintain and drive high quality products to ensure our fresh baked products get to shelves and ultimately your table every day. 
General Position Summary:
The Schwebel Baking Company is looking for a Quality Coordinator to support our bakery in Youngstown, Ohio to lead plant efforts to monitor and improve, if needed, all quality standards for products.  He or she will conduct, review and oversee various tests and evaluations to comply with the Company’s standards and FDA requirements.  There will also be responsibility to ensure customer quality, audit and other requirements.  He or she will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in producing certified, high quality products.  This position will interface daily with all production supervisors, employees in sanitation, receiving, maintenance, shipping and various administrative roles. Thorough knowledge is required of food quality, customer expectations, safety and sanitation procedures, and all laws and regulations.
Your Day to Day:    
This person will be responsible for:

  • Ensure all products are made to the quality expectation of Schwebel’s through various processing, visual audits, quality control audits or other customer needs.  Conduct numerous walk throughs during the shift to verify product quality and safety.
  • Inspect product for compliance with FDA and/or ODA as well as FSSC 22000 third party certification requirements.
  • Partner with all departments to administer Schwebel’s Quality Programs in alignment with FSSC, GFSI, and/or customer standards.  Reports and takes necessary action to prevent food safety, regulatory, or other quality problems from occurring.  Make suggestions for needed updates to Quality Programs.
  • Create, monitor and share quality, food safety or regulatory reports with needed parties.  Take necessary action to prevent any related problems from occurring.  Assist in the development of other metrics and reports.
  • Ensure all products and machines are processing to the requirements.  Report concerns to appropriate department leaders.
  • Assist Corporate Quality Assurance Manager in facilitating meetings with regulatory agencies, customers, or stakeholders when necessary.
  • Handle related customer requests and expectations.  Analyze customer feedback, concerns, and data trends to search for areas of opportunity.
  • Positively engage with all levels of employees to maximize productivity and minimize compliance deficiencies.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure that employees work in a safe manner while upholding company safety policies
What We’re Looking For:
  • Associate’s degree preferred; High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of two years in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment on plant floor.
  • Minimum of two years in food manufacturing or similar operation in a Quality Control capacity.
  • Thorough understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, FSSC Standards.   
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.  Willingness to contribute to the organization and other projects.
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of management and staff.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, ability to maintain confidentiality and support company mission and values.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as research.
  • Ability to legally work in the U.S. and possess a valid driver's license.


Other Capabilities and Requirements:
This role is in-office and works in both an office and plant environment.  It will work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.  Ability to work from/travel to remote locations as needed.
Must be able to work in and around operating equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for a combined 8 or more hours a day.
Must be able to bend, twist, walk, stand, kneel, stoop, climb steps, push, pull or otherwise transport up to 50 pounds occasionally.
