Quality Assurance Technician

The Schwebel Baking Company is seeking a qualified candidate to fill our full-time Quality Tech position at our Solon, Ohio facility.

Purpose: Assures consistent quality and food safety of production enforcing good manufacturing practice (GMP) systems; validating processes; providing documentation; training the bakery staff.  Assisting in certification and recertification processes.  

Job Duties:

  • Validates quality processes and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; updating quality assurance procedures.
  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods.
  • Helps prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Conducts audits of co-manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Other duties and job responsibility as assigned.


  • to support a food safety team and organize its work,
  • to ensure relevant training and education of the food safety team members
  • to ensure that the food safety management system is established, implemented, maintained and updated, and
  • to report to the organization's top management on the effectiveness and suitability of the food safety management system
  • to ensure all sections of the FSSC Standard that requires Food Safety Team verification and/or validation be fully executed
  • Assists in preparing specific plant information for Food Safety, HACCP, and other management review meetings.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accomplishing and/or exceeding goals and expectations.
  • Trend analysis of quality data.
  • Record and prepare meeting minutes for all management meetings.
  • Enforce all quality policies, programs, and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with finished product specifications through documentation review.
  • Ensures records are legible, retained in good condition and are retrievable
  • Assist in maintaining calendar to track required meetings, training and reviews
  • Assists in the investigation and analyzing of trends of consumer complaints.
  • Reports and takes necessary action to prevent food safety, legality and quality problems from occurring
  • Follows and enforces programs and procedures outlined in the Food Safety and Quality Manual to support compliance with the FSSC Standard for Food Safety and other third party audits


Must have experience in food safety.  Adequate knowledge of the GFSI standards (e.g., BRC, SQF, IFS, FSSC 22000) and how they work within food manufacturing and packaging companies.   Process Improvement, Analyzing Information , Strategic Planning, Outstanding Verbal/Written Communication Skills, Informing Others, Quality Engineering, Experience with GFSI audit Schemes, Statistical Process Control, Technical Writing Ability, Emphasizing Excellence, Food Science/Microbiology background a plus, Attention to Detail, Thoroughness, Dealing with Complexity, Ability to train and work closely with Cross Functional Teams.
